Hawaii Deer & Hunting Seasons Information and Regulations, 2022 – 2023

Hawaii is a beautiful series of islands that is a huge home for tourism. In addition to sandy beaches, waves, and amazing hiking though, the island holds some solid hunting opportunities. There are a number of feral hogs, black-tailed deer, and even animals like mouflon sheep.

Turkey Hunting in Hawaii

The island of Hawaii boasts some of the best turkey hunting in America. Turkey season runs November through January and also the entire month of March.

The daily limit is three bearded turkey per hunter with a season bag limit of three as well. All hunters must carry a current and unused turkey tag while hunting. These can be purchased for just $5 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

Crossbow Hunting in Hawaii

Hawaii is not really the place for crossbow hunting generally. There are some restrictions and even doctor’s notes that are required, as described below.

  • Crossbows are only legal in Hawaii when used by someone that holds a special Disabled Permit. A licensed and practicing physician must sign off that the inquiring patient is indeed disabled and certify that he or she is disabled to a degree that may prohibit the use of traditional hunting equipment.
  • Must have a minimum draw weight of 125 pounds.
  • Broadheads must have a cutting blade with a minimum of ¾” diameter.

Hunting Licenses in Hawaii

A valid Hawaii hunting permit is required for all hunting in the state.

Hunters with a disability are eligible for additional accommodations such as the use of a Crossbow and varying season dates. Please contact the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources for more information.
