Rhode Island Hunting Seasons Information and Regulations

Rhode Island offers numerous opportunities for hunting during the designated hunting season. The state is home to a variety of game, including deer, turkey, waterfowl and small game like rabbits, squirrels, and other wildlife. Hunting in Rhode Island follows the same regulations as other states, with certain exceptions such as restrictions on certain weapons or baiting. Hunting season in Rhode Island typically runs from late October through late December for deer; mid-April to the end of May for turkey; mid-September to early January for waterfowl; and late August to late March for small game.

During the hunting season, it is important to adhere to all safety regulations set in place by Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) such as wearing blaze orange when hunting, using non-toxic shot shells, and obtaining proper permits. Rhode Island Crossbow Regulations

Crossbow Specific Regulations: Any crossbow used for hunting in Rhode Island must have a minimum draw weight of 150 pounds. The use of expandable hunting broad-heads is also allowed, as long as your crossbow manufacturer does not advise against them.Additionally, anyone looking to use a crossbow to hunt in Rhode Island must successfully complete classes on bow hunting education. 

Rhode Island Hunting License

In Rhode Island, all hunters are required to have a valid hunting license. Depending on the type of hunting that you plan to do, there is a variety of licenses that can be purchased. For both resident and non-resident hunters, the state offers annual licenses as well as 3-day or 7-day trip licenses for those who are just visiting the state. Additionally, there are special permits and tags that may be needed for certain species of game animals. All hunters in Rhode Island must also abide by local hunting laws and regulations; these can vary by region and season, so it is important to check before you hunt.
