Wyoming Hunting Seasons Information and Regulations

Hunting season in Wyoming is regulated by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Each year, hunting seasons are set to promote hunting opportunities while protecting wildlife populations. The hunting season usually begins around late August/early September and runs through mid-December, though some species may have specific longer or shorter hunting seasons. Popular game animals in Wyoming include elk, deer, pronghorn, bear, bighorn sheep and moose. Hunters need to purchase hunting licenses and hunting tags in order to hunt legally in Wyoming.

Wyoming is a great place for hunting and provides many opportunities for hunting across various geographic regions. Wyoming Crossbow Regulations

Crossbow Specific Regulations: Leverage gaining devices are prohibited in the state of Wyoming; however, certain disabled hunters may obtain a permit to use leverage gaining devices from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. No hunter is allowed to harvest trophy or big game with a crossbow during any special archery season without first purchasing an archery hunting permit as well as the proper hunting license. All hunters seeking to harvest trophy game are required to display fluorescent hunter orange in the form of a shirt; hat; jacket; sweater; or vest so that it is visible to other hunters. The same is required when harvesting pheasant upon Wyoming Department Wildlife Management Areas. This is not required for harvesting game birds or small game; however, it is strongly advised.

Wyoming Hunting License

Anyone who wants to hunt in Wyoming must obtain a hunting license. There are several different types of hunting licenses available, depending on the type of hunting you plan to do. Resident hunting licenses are for hunting within the state of Wyoming, while non-resident hunting licenses are for hunting outside of the state. The hunting license fee for residents is $33 for a year-long hunting license, while the hunting license fee for non-residents is $168. All hunting licenses must be purchased in person at a Wyoming Game and Fish Department office or hunting license vendor. In addition to hunting licenses, Wyoming hunters may also need to obtain a hunting permit or hunting voucher for certain species of game or hunting areas. It is important to be aware of hunting regulations and obtain the appropriate hunting license, permits, or vouchers before hunting in Wyoming.
